When I started the IVF injections, my fertility doctor at MGH had said that he expected more ‘modest’ results (i.e. egg harvest) based on my testing…Well, we crushed that number and the doctors were able to retrieve 31 mature eggs of which 14 were successfully fertilized and 7 grew past day 5 (6 of the 7 genetically normal).  I absolutely feel that acupuncture was partially responsible for our ‘over achievement’ and our doctor was definitely blown away by the results!!
I was 36.5 years old and had been trying to become a first-time mom for just under a year.  I was beginning an IVF protocol (the plan was 2 IUIs & then IVF if unsuccessful) and had read that acupuncture was a great way to boost your fertility, so I decided to couple my IVF protocol with Jen’s services.  I was a first-timer to acupuncture, but felt open minded to it’s benefits and rationalized that it could only help!  What was a few more needle pricks anyways?
I knew from testing that my husband had motility issues and I had a borderline low egg count, so that was a tough double-whammy.  I also have Celiac and was worried that accidental gluten ingestion could be hurting my chances of conceiving.  Finally, there was some family history on my paternal side of infertility and several of my aunts were unable to conceive and had turned (years ago) to adoption.
When I started the IVF injections, my fertility doctor at MGH had said that he expected more ‘modest’ results (i.e. egg harvest) based on my testing.  At the time, I was hoping for 15-20 mature eggs for harvest.  Well, we crushed that number and the doctors were able to retrieve 31 mature eggs of which 14 were successfully fertilized and 7 grew past day 5 (6 of the 7 genetically normal).  I absolutely feel that acupuncture was partially responsible for our ‘over achievement’ and our doctor was definitely blown away by the results!!  Our fresh transfer failed, which wasn’t surprising, but our second transfer worked and I’m now 5.5 months pregnant with a baby boy!  Best yet, we still have frozen healthy embryos for when we try for #2.  I will absolutely be contacting Jen 3-months before we re-start the IVF process to make sure my uterus and surrounding tissues are as healthy as possible.  Beyond just the physical benefits, I found acupuncture to be a nice little oasis from life’s every day challenge and strains.  I think I fell asleep on the table 90% of the time and left the office with this nice ‘body hum’ that’s hard to describe to anyone who hasn’t experienced the sensation..  I would still be going to Jen right now, but my employer changed insurance and each visit would cost almost $100 out of pocket.  That said, I’ll gladly pay that fee when we’re actively going for #2!  Jen was great!  Consistently encouraging and always checking-in on where we were in the IVF process and then tailoring her needle placement around that particular step.  She also was really cool about answering my endless list of questions about how acupuncture works and why she placed needles in certain spots.  Jen has a clear passion for working with women who are facing fertility challenges and it shows in the care she takes.  She was also awesome about scheduling and worked with me around challenges whenever necessary.  I texted Jen the day I found out I was finally pregnant and she was ecstatic!  It felt like she was a teammate in our journey and I’m grateful for her help and encouragement.

Monday I woke up with natural contractions- they were mild and were on and off all day- I saw my doc at 4pm and she said I was only 1 cm, and that she'd see me in the morning to be induced. I was desperate to seek support and guidance from a new source and it was suggested that I try acupuncture. 
After an early miscarriage followed by a traumatic stillbirth, I was desperate to seek support and guidance from a new source and it was suggested that I try acupuncture.
